Excuse Me, Mr. Linden …

SM Marilyn Ad - Cropped
Am I crazy?  Or weren’t Linden Lab in-world minions recently seizing the accounts of content creators and deleting anything emblazoned with “Marilyn” or “Monroe” or any combination of the two words, even items having absolutely nothing to do with the famed starlet?  I suspect they were doing so to comply with US laws concerning copyright and trademark some legal threat from the estate of Marilyn Monroe

Well, looks like the folks over at Stiletto Moody weren’t affected.  (It’s probably because they overlooked the Stiletto Moody empire as they were too busy begging arranging for Stiletto Moody representatives to speak at the 2010 SL Pro! conference.)  You can find the image above on the Stiletto Moody website as an advertisement for the “Name Our BARE Movie Stars of The 50s” contest.  The Stiletto Moody shoes, apparently named for Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Katherine Hepburn are obviously still in-tact and presumably selling for the same astronomical prices that we’ve come to expect from Stiletto Moody.

wrote up something on the Lindens' draconian dictates over at my blog here. there are links to the official blog post and discussion forums in it for further details and community reactions.

i was absolutely shocked then, as i am each time the new M Lab tries to destroy independant creators. i don't know anyone caught up in the new policy sweep but the way it's written, we're all guilty. even "inspired by rl" designs are verboten. good on you for bringing it up Shyayn. DUCK!
