I haven’t been blogging quite as much as I’d like, so I decided to dive in head-first and talk about the newest release from MANDALA. They’ve released their illustrious nails in 4 different lengths with an all new color palette and HUD that kicks the prim-nails game up a notch. (Don’t worry, they even released them in a super-short, unisex length for all you girls and boys that don’t like the loooooong nails.) The “super long” style is shown here cause that’s how I roll. But what’s really remarkable about these new nails is the HUD and all the options!

Of course, you get tons of color options with new HUD, but you also get to choose from 5 different sculpt shapes for your nails, just in case you don’t dig super-square nails like yours truly. (But the super-square nails are definitely still an option. Whew!) You can even choose to make the sculpted nails you sport on one hand different from the other and, alas, you can trick out your nails to the Nth degree by going as far as changing the color of each different nail on your pretty, little hand.

I absolutely love the “Milky Way” rings and nails in the latest colors and hope to see more soon. As always, you can choose to wear the complete package (shown below) or just the ring or just the nails.

The complementary “Milky Way” choker was also recently released in three new and exciting colors. I really love this piece and really want it in A LOT of colors. (You can tell, I used it in the new blog header!)

And last, but most certainly not least, there are new bangles! These days I just don’t feel my outfit is complete without some MANDALA magic on my hands and wrists. The new “Takara Bangles” are a nice change of pace from some of the more flashy jewelry that MANDALA is most recognized for and they go great with the new nails since these are one of the few bangle sets that don’t come with nails of their own to match the bracelets. Have fun with ‘em.

Shoe Report Card for N-Core (2011)

Roughly 3 years ago N-Core was a virtual unknown that had quietly appeared with a handful of sculpted shoes. The team at N-Core worked quickly, slowly and fastidiously driving nails into the self-made coffin of Stiletto Moody with quality heels that ooze sex appeal like nobody’s business. Since they first appeared, N-Core has progressed dramatically, in every facet of business and content creation. Today, N-Core alone can be seen as an accurate gauge of what speaks to the mainstream in Second Life, boasting an in-world group that includes an excess of 34,000 loyal, active residents. You’d be hard pressed to go anywhere in Second Life and not see a pair of N-Core shoes on someone’s feet. N-Core’s indisputable dominance in the world of Second Life shoes, in terms of sheer numbers of customers and sales, earns them a spot on the list. Having a great product with outstanding customer support just bolsters that position and ensures they’ll remain power players for a long time to come. That being said, one of the most recent releases from N-Core, Caresse, is on the chopping block.

Design:

Comments:
When I saw Caresse, it was love at first sight. The design unequivocally says, "summer is almost here and I'm going to make sure you get all hot and bothered." Most notably, the Caresse design successfully eliminated one of the design flaws present in earlier offerings from N-Core. Caresse features, among other things, a new foot that has a very sexy, very pronounced arch [that looks natural.] Earlier N-Core shoes were slightly problematic for me in that the foot arch, between toe and heel, seemed to be almost at a 90-degree angle and struck me not only as unrealistic, but a factor that would limit future shoe designs since such a pronounced arch would make it incredibly difficult to implement any platform or substantial base beneath the toes and ball of the foot. But I believe they've hit the nail on the head with the foot used in the case of Caresse - a more realistic foot that manages to fit into an exceptionally high stiletto for an overall shoe that oozes all of the sex appeal that that has made N-Core one of the biggest names in shoes today.

Execution:

Comments:
Caresse, like other N-Core shoes, requires that you adjust your LOD settings via the advanced menu to prevent "sculpty shrink" from a distance. I consider this standard operating procedure for anyone that is serious about enjoying Second Life, so it does not diminish the value of the shoes for me. Presumably, all of the women I see wearing N-Core shoes and the 30,000+ N-Core group members feel the same.

Overall, Caresse is an exceptional shoe and not only one of the finest shoes to come out of N-Core, but one of the best shoes released in Second Life this year. Notwithstanding the foregoing, there are several components of the shoe that leave something to be desired.

The beauty of sculpted feet is having beautiful, sexy, cute toes. And while I do place N-Core in my personal top 5 cobblers in sl, I'm really looking for N-Core to make me some toes that compete with those that I consider the very best. Although these are new toes are a dramatic improvement over past releases from N-Core, I still feel like the toes and toe nails are too rounded and uniform overall. I also feel like these toes lack the appearance of some realistic tension where the tips of the toes meet the portion of the shoe that rests under them, as you would naturally see when a woman wears high heels. But I have every confidence in the hard-working, N-Core team and believe that it's only a matter of time before N-Core is producing some of the finest toes on the grid.

But my largest criticism of this shoe involves the textures. And while I see this particular shoe as a huge jump forward for N-Core in terms of textures, I think there's substantial room for improvement. The wood platform base passes muster for the most part, but undoubtedly the wood grain could look significantly more convincing. In a handful of places on the shoe, the wood grain looks akin to plastic or another synthetic material. More importantly, the textures on the main part of the shoe run afoul of the "identifiable texture" test - which means that I'm unable to definitively tell you what fabric or material is being used when I look at the shoe. The faint lines and slight color variation in the straps on the top of the shoe suggest that we're working with a satin, but I don't see enough variation in the texture to pull off satin successfully. And I definitely don't see a convincing suede or a leather here, but it would seem that the relative rigidity of a leather would be required to form some of the more structured parts of this shoe, specifically the portion of the shoe covering the toes and the adornment above that.

Vanity Features (Including Nail Polish, Toe Rings, et. al.):
10/10

Comments:
All the customary bells and whistles are on the HUD - a toe ring that changes colors or can be entirely removed, an on/off option for a gloss coating over the shoe material, an on/off option for shoe sounds, and an option to hide or show invisiprims on the shoes. The user can choose from 27 different nail polishes, though the nail polish options are one of N-Core's weaker points. The nail polishes available definitely pass as nail polish, but there's a lot of room for progress in this department at N-Core.

But N-Core scores a 10 in this category because of the countless options available to customize these shoes via the HUD. At the outset, I will point out that any and all customization can be done via the Caresse HUD - even with the fat pack. I absolutely cannot stand purchasing a shoe fat pack only to have 12 different pairs of the same shoe in my inventory (or 24 different objects, if you're worried about inventory bloat.) With Caresse, I simply have to deal with a single pair of shoes and a HUD. I can change everything about the shoes from the HUD. I sincerely hope this becomes standard practice for cobblers on the grid sooner rather than later.

But there's way more to write home about Caresse! (You didn't think N-Core scored a 10 in this category just because they lightened the load on my inventory, did you?) Caresse is a miracle in that it's (almost) infinitely customizable. Almost every part of the shoe has been divided into its' very own subsection and can each be changed to one of [at least] 6 different colors via the HUD. The larger parts of the shoe, (the heel, lace tops, and main shoe) can each be changed one of [at least] 14 different colors (on the shoe fatback.) (If you purchase Caresse in a single color, only some of these options are available, and you cannot change the color of the main part(s) of the shoe.) I didn't do very well in math, but I know enough to know that's a whole lot of different options when it comes to deciding how you want your shoe to look. But N-Core didn't stop there with Caresse. Nope, they went above and beyond - basically making Caresse four different shoes (in one.) If you look under the options menu on the Caresse HUD you'll see options A, B, C, and D at the top next to "Style." Each of these options changes the look of the lace tops of the heel - giving you everything from looking strapped up to the ankle with two buckles to no top laces at all, and two additional choices between all or nothing. That's a huge bonus for those of us that love to endlessly customize our avatar appearances and it adds a ton of value to the shoe overall!

Finally, N-Core has a fabulous color palette, featuring vivid colors for those of us that prefer bold colors. Over the years, I've always loved the bright, bold colors that are part and parcel of the N-Core empire. My N-Core closet is definitely where I look when I need a big splash of color - which is more often than not. As a personal aside, I will say that I have missed the orange/mango color that has been missing from the N-Core color palette as of late and I sincerely hope it will make a return soon.

Functionality (Including Skin Matching, Stocking or Sock Compatibility, Resize, et. al.):
10/10

Comments:
If anything is lacking at N-Core, it is most certainly NOT the scripts used in the shoes and the functionality associated with those scripts. N-Core has kept pace with the premier scripting coming out of places like SLink at every turn. N-Core shoes use a single, passive script per shoe that responds to the incredibly well-developed HUD - which translates to less lag and absolutely no active scripts in my shoes when I'm not using the HUD (and no hideous blue pop-up menus coming from my shoes at random.) The user-friendly N-Core HUD performs all necessary functions, like controlling the shoe size and color, skin color, the presence of invisiprims, and the use of stockings or socks. The HUD allows the user to manipulate the exact look of his or her shoe quickly and effectively.

Resize - The resize function works quickly and effectively. More importantly, it meets the increasingly high standards being set by many of the major players in the shoe game, like SLink and LeLutka. Specifically, the size, location, and rotation of the shoe components are embedded or hard-wired into the shoe scripts so that any changes can quickly be undone with the "reset" button and it's virtually impossible to screw up resizing your shoes.

Skin Matching - In addition to arriving with a number of lists that detail the exact RGB values for some of the most popular skins, Caresse is equipped with 12 skin bases and a corresponding RGB color palette to allow the end-user to get a perfect match. I have never had a problem getting my N-Core feet to perfectly match whatever skin I'm wearing.

Stockings and Socks - Caresse far exceeded my expectations with the options available for the end-user to wear a variety of stockings or socks with the heels (rather than just showing a bare prim foot.) The easy-to-use HUD allows you to pick from a wide array of options in this department - from tintable bobby socks with a ruffle to fishnet pantyhose, and pantyhose with or without a back seam and reinforced toes to tintable knee socks. You simply have to put on your chosen pantyhose or knee socks and select the appropriate base texture from the HUD to go with whatever you're trying to match and use the RGB color palette to get an exact match. N-Core is currently the ONLY cobbler on the grid providing an option for anyone wanting to wear fishnet pantyhose. The fishnets provided with your shoe purchase match the texture on the HUD seamlessly and stand up to most fishnets sold on the grid. And though I strongly feel that the appearance of the toes under the fishnet stocking could be improved, there's something to be said for N-Core being the sole provider of this option. I'm hoping to see a tintable fishnet stocking option out of N-Core in the near future.

And though I'm not one to regularly wear knee-socks with my high heels, I was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of options available in this department. I was especially pleased to find knee socks with my purchase that stand up to anything else that I've got in my closet and that are 100% modifiable/tintable, allowing me to wear whatever color of socks I want with my shoes. And I will point out that though I rarely wear knee socks with my heels, this is absolutely critical if you're going to offer this option with your shoes. It's incredibly unhelpful and limiting to have shoes that feature a sock option that corresponds, in color, only to those handful of socks sold along with the shoes (that are NOT modifiable/tintable.)

Customer Service:

Comments:
Note that all N-Core shoes, including Caresse, arrive with a complete set of foolproof directions that feature additional notecards and helpful images. Notwithstanding that fact, N-Core Head Diva and SL Resident Sweetheart, nuria Augapfel, is forever at her customer's beck and call - fielding questions day and night from customers (that have probably not read the provided directions) and ensuring that any N-Core customer is a satisfied customer. She handles all of her customer's queries with grace, understanding, and endless patience. I know that customer service is a top priority for N-Core, and product support means everything when you've spent your hard-earned dollars on some premium shoes for your doll. And though it's unlikely that N-Core, having more than 30,000 members in its' customer group, needs to implement a system that benefits regular or return customers with a store credit towards a future purchase or some type of a discount, I'm always a fan of added bonuses that ultimately net more sales and increase the chances of having customers come back again and again.

Value (Quality/Price):
8/10

A pair of Caresse in a single color will run you L$795 while the fat pack goes for a cool L$5,995. The price is certainly reasonable. In fact, those prices are pretty good considering the sophistication of the product that you're buying. But the shoe market right now is more competitive than ever - and that extends to prices. So let's cut to the chase. When I want a pair of shoes, I want the fat pack - not a single color. (And I'd be willing to bet that most consumers running around feel the same way. After all, what's the point of my fabulous Second Life if I can't have that uber sexy shoe in ALL of the colors?) And fat pack purchases are good for business. A fat pack purchase means that a single visit to your store grossed three to five times more than it would have if that same person had only purchased a single color. But let's not forget that $5,995 is roughly $24.00 USD and the vast majority of people are putting that money into this game - rather than using money they've made in-world to "play" with. (It's definitely something that people are giving greater thought to given the state of the US economy.) That being said, I have found that my sweet spot for fat pack purchases is between L$2,000 and L$4,000. I think most people would agree (and a lot more shoe fat packs would be sold if priced accordingly.) But beyond that, consider that competition is fierce - especially in the shoe market - and some of the finest shoes on the grid are priced well within the limits of most consumers looking to buy a new fat pack of shoes. So N-Core is rated slightly better than just passing in this category, but that has a lot more to do with the design of this shoe in particular, the incredibly large, strong customer base that N-Core has garnered over the years, and the fact that this shoe presents almost everything that the average consumer is looking for in an attractive and exceptionally easy-to-use package.

Overall Score: 55/60 or 91.67% = A-

Shoe Report Cards and My Current Top 10 List

It has been a little over a year and a half since I last released any Shoe Report Cards. And while I’ve never been known for being the most regular or up-to-the-minute blogger, those posts were certainly some of the most popular posts I’ve ever published. Over the past year and a half, many residents and even other bloggers have contacted me to ask whether or not I’d be issuing more Shoe Report Cards. I always said that I was planning to, but was unsure when I’d be back in the saddle since my real life has been quite full and tumultuous over the past year.

I’m happy to report that I am back with a new list of what I consider to be the 10 most relevant cobblers in Second Life and at least one Shoe Report Card ready to go. As always, no ass-kissing, no Photoshop magic, and no bullshit; just me and the naked truth about what’s on your feet. So without further adieu, I give you my current list of The Top 10 Most Relevant Shoe-Makers In Second Life (in no particular order.)

*I use the term “relevant” because I believe that these are the shoe-makers that must discussed and acknowledged in any serious discussion about shoes. While most cobblers make it to the list for exceptional quality and corresponding sales or large followings among Second Life users, at least one business is on the list for being relatively famous (or infamous,) and yet another is an often-overlooked, underrepresented “dark horse” in the Second Life shoe world.

SLink Brings Christmas In June

Last year in April, SLink unleashed the exceptional Tiger Heels – featuring brand new toes. I’m happy to report that there has been no rest for the weary over at SLink and that this fine week in June has brought the arrival of the Tiger Heels’ big sister, Lulu – featuring brand new toes and a new foot.

At the outset, I will say that Lulu is a tremendously strong shoe concept and build that stands on its own - bringing the very best of the “earthy feel” heel that SLink is so good at and successfully combining it with the appearance of a super, high, sexy, metal, stiletto heel that says, “I am so sexy, I’m lethal.” Lulu is not only unique in it’s fabulous and intriguing combination of the two diametrically-opposed styles, but the overall design is a fresh take on the stiletto with straps galore. Pushing the envelope and wrapping those straps not just around the foot, but using them to seemingly bind the foot to the serious arch of the stiletto base via the uber-sharp, stiletto heel contributes to the feeling that the woman who wears these shoes probably mixes at least a little pain in with her pleasure.

I won’t lie, I was immediately struck by the new toes and foot on this latest release from SLink, so I couldn’t wait to put it right next to its predecessor to see everything that had been given a facelift. Pictured above is Lulu (in red) and next to her, the Tiger Heels (in pink/watermelon.) The toes have obviously been given a complete overhaul and look better than ever. Though I consistently ranked the last toes to come out of SLink among the top three sets of toes in Second Life shoes, one of the (very small) concerns I had about them was that they were almost so realistic in terms of the apparent tension in them and in overall appearance that they skirted dangerously close to not possessing the type of cute-perfection that is endemic in our avatars and the goods that we favor over others. In other words, so much of our avatars are cute and perfect by design that we look for that same type of cute-perfection in goods we attach to our avatars, like toes and hands. And though the last toes out of SLink were dangerously close to being so real that they crossed over into un-cute territory, I’m happy to say that this latest overhaul has left the SLink toes looking very real but also well on the super cute side of the cartoon cute-perfection vs. so real it’s un-cute continuum.

And naturally, I have saved the best for last and now turn what is a very significant and much-needed change to the SLink empire – an updated foot with a more pronounced arch! The newest foot maintains the realistic and proportionate length of the foot, from heel-to-toe, shortening it just the tiniest bit. But oh baby, did that tiny bit go a long, long way! The foot has been refashioned to feature a much more pronounced arch than we’ve seen previously out of SLink. And my shoe whore’s intuition says that this is an excellent deal for SLink and consumers alike. After all, we’re talking about an integral reason that women wear high heels in the first place as well as one of the most prominent characteristics shared by this shoe and other shoes and feet that have completely dominated the market, such as those by Stiletto Moody and more recently, N-Core.

With the new toes and foot, I’m more excited than ever to see what’s in store for SLink. All in all, I think this marks the beginning of what’s going to be a helluva year for SLink.

My Very Own Bobble Head

Last night I asked my good friend, Codebastard Redgrave, what a hot babe like her was doing on a Saturday night. I knew immediately that I wanted in when she told me that she and her luscious wifey, Gabby Panacek, were playing dollies and showed me a link to the Bloom Dolls Flickr Group. I tried not to have an aneurysm (or break a sweat) from all the excitement over having something new and novel to do with my very favorite Doll as I landed at Sand Shack Surf Co. to snatch up one of the new Bloom Doll Avatars. I teleported home and immediately swooned over my new purchase. Now I too could absolutely verify what all the rage was about (aside from these little suckers being terminally cute and adorable.)

Brimming with the feeling that my entire inventory had been made new all over again, I hurriedly dressed my Doll as an angst-filled bobble teen ready to go bad girl, replete with a cigarette, dark shades, and a tote bag that any misunderstood, young artist would love. I screamed as loudly as one can scream via type, “TP ME” and I promptly arrived amidst a sea of similarly-bobbled girls in what felt like the pandemonium of a Justin-Bieber-sighting at a tween sleepover.

“What about this hair?” cried one Bloom Doll to another.

“OMG … that skirt is soooooo kyoot like that!” shrieked yet another and so on until I sifted through the sea of Bloom Dolls to find my little, red-headed minx Codie to get a second opinion on my own outfit. After we all agreed that we were all the cutest things ever, we mused about the novelty of the Bloom Doll Avatars and about what a genius Emma Gilmour is for having turned a simple, sculpted doll head into a must-have upgrade and rebirthing our inventories in one fell swoop.

We put together different ensembles for our Dolls and posed like miniature prima donnas with giant heads, feverishly updating our respective Flickr pages until it was time for many of the bobbles, including myself, to drift off to sleep. And so it was a wonderful Saturday night in the world of Second Life. But that’s not how I’m absolutely sure that these Bloom Doll Avatars are going to be the latest craze for a while to come. I knew that unequivocally when I woke up (early) this morning and couldn’t wait to log on to dress my little bobble and take her for her very own photo shoot at the beach! Hat’s off to Emma Gilmour of Sand Shack Surf Co. for making me (and all the other Bloom Dolls) eager to log in.

Warm Feet?

My feet are the stuff that legends are made of. They’ve always been ice cold. When I was a little girl I’d shove them between my mother and the bed to keep them warm at night to which she responded, “Get those blocks of ice off of me and put some socks on!” But I was never one for wearing socks, so I started running in a effort to gain some reprieve from my icy appendages. I ran with the wind, and without it – for any reason, or no reason at all. My cold feet carried me over what must be a million miles and a thousand lives – propelling me to the highest highs and dragging me to the lowest lows. Eventually, my cold feet learned to carry me far away from anything that might warm them, good or bad, fearing that any warmth would do away with the icy edge that gave them wings and let me fly. And though my legs are so very tired and my mind has committed my heart and soul to figuring out how to thaw these little blocks of ice for myself, they are still pretty well frozen-solid.

As luck would have it, someone showed up to hold my hand while I try to melt these little “blocks of ice.” The warmth that radiates from him is way more than enough to send my icy feet into sub-zero temperatures as they prepare to carry me away. But today, my heart and soul won the battle with my feet and decided that in lieu of leaving a “Dear John” letter with no forwarding address in an empty bed, I would put on some socks and stay put.

Fortunately, I was not alone in that effort either. I found something warm to help hold my cold feet in place while I wait patiently. Today, Ms. Siddean Munro, of SLink fame, bestowed upon the grid (and my cold feet) the gift of the perfect winter boots, socks included. They are highly-recommended by my feet.

Rock Out With TART

One of my very favorite offerings from the Summer of Love Fair [SLurl] is this super simple, sexy mini-dress from TART [SLurl.] I positively love the fact that TART is continuously coming up with fresh takes on the short, short dresses that we’ve all come to love in SecondLife. And the Bree dress (above) is no exception. Super short and super simple with great textures and highlights all over the front but with one hell of a party going on in the back. I’m lovin’ it! Right now, you can pick it up at the Summer of Love Fair [SLurl] for something insanely reasonable like $L 99 per color and $L 400 for one of two sets that each include 5 different colors from the beautiful TART color palette. When I snagged Bree, I decided that I would try to rock out the look a little bit, so I had to go shopping for some terrific tattoos.

I hit up all the usual suspects but didn’t find much to my liking, as I’m pretty particular about what comes between me and my new favorite skin by Mynerva [SLurl.] But after quite an extensive (and expensive) search, I found some totally bitchin’ ink at Ink’D Up! [Slurl.] The tattoos at Ink’D Up! immediately caught my eye as completely original, hand-drawn pieces of artwork for your body that genuinely resemble real tattoos when worn on an avatar skin, right down to the sheen that you see on heavily-inked skin in the real world. Many of the tattoos out there either look painted on an avatar skin in a completely fake way or leave me with the feeling that someone went crazy with trendy clip art in Photoshop. I can safely say that is NOT the case with the tattoos at Ink’D Up! Tattoos at Ink’D Up! are priced comparably with other high-end tattoos on the market at about $L 500 per tattoo, but I think the quality and craftsmanship from Ink’D Up! is really a cut above the rest from what I gathered last night as I visited a wide variety of tattoo shops in search of the best body ink around. And quality is what really matters when we’re talking about putting something over the positively adorable skins coming out of Mynerva [Slurl] right now. Talk about having the face of an angel…

I know you don’t often see the themes of ladylike elegance, style, and class echoed on this esteemed weblog, but I will make an exception in the case of a sculpted shoe as spectacular as the recently-released Pow Pumps from LeLutka [SLurl.]

Be A CStar!

This is NOT a skin review. Nonetheless, I have a few things to say about CStar Skins [SLurl] in Second Life and I’m pretty sure that after having seen these new faces that you too might just decide you want to be a CStar girl! I discovered CStar Skins at the Black & Blue Fair and marveled at the completely unique faces, shading, and lips, so much so that I actually modified the shape of some of my doll’s facial features to fit with each CStar skin. If you know me, you know that shape modifications are extraordinarily rare for me, so I welcomed the change to play with my shape (that is almost always the same) to complement the beautiful faces coming out of CStar Skins. But that isn’t the best part, not by a long shot.

I found out that the CStar business model is as unique as the faces on the skins! After I initially discovered CStar at the Black & Blue Fair, I visited the CStar main store to check out everything else for sale. To my astonishment, I encountered numerous “SOLD OUT” signs over some of the skins that I would have otherwise been right-clicking to buy. I quickly learned that each CStar skin is available only in very limited quantities on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Creating beautiful and unique faces is sheer genius in and of itself, but giving Second Life residents an opportunity to be one of just 15 lucky people on the grid that own the exact same skin moves beyond genius and into EPIC territory! Let’s face it, we live in a world where residents are constantly struggling to look unique and different from one another in an attempt to express their individuality and skins are a hot commodity (unless you’re a Photoshop genius with the time to make a skin just for you.) And I probably don’t have to tell most of you that the creation of a quality skin is a tremendous and time-consuming feat. So if you’re looking to stand out from the crowd and sport a seriously fierce face, I recommend that you check out CStar regularly. And if the skins you see in these pictures aren’t available the next time you teleport into CStar, don’t worry because CStar has just begun the release of its “High Fashion Skin” series and you can look forward to the release of 2-3 new faces per week.

It’s that time of year when I am feeling terribly sorry for all those folks who live in places where Central A/C is optional. It’s summertime! And late last night, my friend Colleen Criss informed me about a little something to break the monotony going on in my own little world. She gave me a link to The Big Bad Blogger 2010 Sign Up and said, “you write a helluva a blog sister, get to it." And even though I’ve been away for a bit and focusing more on my store, SHAG, and dealing with my new obsession in Second Life, Petable Turtles, I remembered that it’s just about time for A Shoe Mid-Term Report and the issuance of some long-overdue Shoe Report Cards. And aside from that, I still have a whole lotta stuff to write about! I grabbed the bull by the horns, threw my hat in the ring, and decided to use this little challenge as a chance to get into prime blogger shape for some upcoming posts that I’ve had planned for a while. Who knows? Maybe they’ll come out this very week. And being that the dog days of summer are looming closer and closer, I decided to kick off my go at being a big, bag blogger in 2010 with an outfit that has summertime written all over it.

I was teleporting around to the various shops participating in Project Themeory, and I found myself at Acid & Mala Creations [SLurl] where I picked up this adorable, polka-dotted mini-dress in mustard yellow. The dress is cute-as-a-button, the prim skirt works and I couldn’t be happier with the hue of “mustard” yellow that perfectly complements the yellow Obsession Heels from N-Core [Slurl]. This summertime look gave me the perfect opportunity to show off some of the new hair I picked up at the huge sale going on at fri.day [SLurl] and the Giant Crystal Stoned Love Jewelry in “Sunny” that is available at my own little piece of server space, SHAG [SLurl]. I topped it all off with the arm ribbon that I recently made for all the designer’s that will be participating along with me in the 2010 Summer of Love Fair. (If you haven’t picked yours up yet, you can grab it at the venue from the giant, full bright gift box near the landing point.)

Party In The Back @ TART

The newest release from TART [SLurl], Alexandra, has made me painfully aware that I have NOT been giving TART the treatment here that it deserves. If you’ve been to TART or own anything from there, you already know that the textures are divine, the side seams are always handled with the type of care that leads to seamless perfection, and the designs are unique and definitely never prefab or template-based. But beyond all that fabulousness, TART almost always provides a fresh take on those tiny dresses that we’ve all come to love and Alexandra is absolutely no exception to that rule.

In the front, Alexandra appears to be just a high-quality mini-dress with exceptional detailing all over and wonderful lace accents (that don’t stretch) around the bust area of the garment. But holy mother of god, look at what’s going on in the back! DOES SOMEONE MAKE AN AO THAT WILL MAKE ME WALK BACKWARDS? The back of Alexandra features the same wonderful textures and detailing as the front except that there’s a rather noticeable gap, right down the middle of the back of the dress, and it’s covered only by immaculately-constructed prim attachments that appear to be holding that dress together as it graces your fine pixels. YUMMY!

Get Plastik For L$ 50

I can safely say that I spent too much time playing pointlessly in Photoshop yesterday and also that I’m officially freaked out when I see more than one of me in the same picture. (And it has been a while since I’ve had to crop the ‘ol green screen, so be gentle.) But that’s all okay, because I did it all for the love of Plastik [SLurl.] I’m really digging the stuff coming out of Plastik. The designs from Plastik are refreshingly original and definitely NOT the stuff of XStreet templates, the cuts on the outfits are done with precision so that you get none of that horrid stretch effect in all the wrong places, the textures definitely hold their own, no nasty, mismatched seams anywhere, the prim skirts work (even for all the junk in my trunk) and many of the tube-style dresses come with a chest prim to bridge the gap between your twin peaks that sometimes leaves an unflattering line across your chest if you have a nice rack. (The chest prim attachment is very overlooked and underused, in my opinion, and I encourage anyone who already is or really wants to be a prolific hoetourier to give the chest prim a second look.) There’s also a lot of attention to detail in the items coming out of Plastik and this is particularly noticeable when you look at commonly-botched details like the texturing on the prim attachments matching seamlessly with the garment. (That type of attention to detail is something I frequently comment on, and something I still believe separates the wheat from the chaff when it comes to deciding who really makes the short list of prolific hoetouriers.)

And the best think going on right now at Plastik [Slurl] is the “Black Like My Soul” sale. Every black item in the store is just L$ 50 right now and for the duration of the sale. I seized this fantastic opportunity to grab the goodies you see above, but because my soul isn’t really black, (and fatpack is my favorite color,) I had to throw some color on it.

I didn’t get to do a ton of shopping this past weekend, but I still managed to make a few excellent finds. Yesterday I picked up these spiffy new “Cat Eye” sunglasses from Gos [SLurl]. I totally dig the style of these new duds, as well as the fact that they’re very versatile. You can change the textures on the frame, lenses, and diamond adornments on the glasses to one of many different options via the blue drop-down menu. And I’m very happy to inform you that the new “Cat Eye” sunglasses are currently available at an exceptional introductory price of L$ 295. If you love sunglasses like I love sunglasses, then I recommend that you do yourself a favor and run over to Gos [Slurl] and grab yourself a whole lotta sunglasses goodness for just L$ 295.

I love the texture options available with these sunglasses! (My only real complaint is that the gems on the sunglasses don’t have a full bright option to make them standout a bit more, though you can make ‘em bling if that’s your thing.) All the options available on these new glasses gave me a chance to mix up my look and show off another great find from this past weekend, my new favorite tank tops from Suicidal Unborn [SLurl]. Gold By Moonshine

I already told you that Kayle Mazerath is a total genius and that the ~*GOD*~ sim is one of the coolest places in Second Life, but I almost forgot to tell you about one (of the many) extremely cool things you can pick up when you go to visit ~*GOD*~ [SLurl]. Kayle Mazerath, and the team of artistic geniuses at ~*GOD*~, have created the ~*GOD*~ Dream Scene series of skyboxes. There are a huge number of different “Dream Scenes” that you can pick from or grab the whole lot right here on XStreetSL. And although the photos of the ~*GOD*~ Dream Scenes, both here and elsewhere are quite nice, I strongly encourage you to check them out in-world at the ~*GOD*~ sim, because pictures really don’t do them justice.

The Dream Scenes are by far the coolest skyboxes I have ever seen, and they rank damn high on the lists of outstanding photo props, premium cuddle places in Second Life, and places that I’m most likely to escape to when the world is getting down on me (or where I might just throw an impromptu party on Saturday night.) Each dream scene is, among other things, exceptionally unique and creative, under 300 prims, filled with quality animations and poses, and COMPLETELY MODIFIABLE. Aside from the very obvious “cool” factor, the craftsmanship and work put into the ~*GOD*~ Dream Scenes is second to NONE. I can safely say that not a stone was left unturned and no effort was spared in the creation of these magnificent skyboxes that really do take you to another world. The textures, modeling, and effects in each of these skyboxes are among some of the best I’ve seen in Second Life … period. (And Imma tell you right now, prim water has NEVER looked this good.)

Today I chose to show one of my favorite outfits from Son!a (that perfectly matches my gold BAX boots) against the backdrop of “The Moonshine Boat” Dream Scene by ~*GOD*~. “The Moonshine Boat” is one of my very favorite Dream Scenes by ~*GOD*~, though I have to admit that I have a ton of trouble picking a single favorite from everything presently available at ~*GOD*~. “The Moonshine Boat” features a small boat full of intimate cuddle animations for couples, surrounded by the killer, mind-blowing prim water by ~*GOD*~, moving clouds, fog and particle effects, and of course a glorious, brilliant moon. Kayle Mazerath of ~*GOD*~ was nice enough to come over for the shoot and take a ton of pictures that you can check out on his Flickr page here. (He’s the mystery man in black up at the top.) Like his creations, his avatar is completely intriguing and really defies being labeled or categorized. I would promise that we’ll find time to shoot all of the Dream Scenes, but I’m pretty sure that having that much fun is criminal.

And before she could finish inspecting my “hooker nails” and telling me that I was falling out of my dress, I said that it was time for her to harness her inner-hoe for a good, old-fashioned hoe down.

And being one to give credit where credit is due, I really have to hand it to her. Not only did she go hoe on a dime, but she did it well and brought along the all-important accessory, a stylin’ and profilin’ pimp. BRAVO!

A Day With ~GOD~

Luck, Inc. really made my short list for last week when they released a dress even shorter than I thought possible and the new releases from MANDALA are still blowing my mind, but all I really wanted to do was spend a day with ~*GOD*~. In case you didn’t know, the team of extraordinarily skilled artists and visionaries at ~*GOD*~ have assembled a magical place that simultaneously shows the world what simulators are really for and justifies the purchase of the high-dollar graphics card that you’ll be dying to make once you’ve been in the Garden of Dreams.

I didn’t get a Second Life to experience the sights, sounds, and imagery that is readily-available in atom’s world, so I’m naturally drawn to the amazing fields of flowers and wheat filled with butterflies and the kind of dreams that could only be fulfilled in a world where anything is possible. It’s as if someone recreated mother nature from the perspective of all the magical creatures that might inhabit a garden or forest and then outfitted it with tons of smaller environments that are completely conducive to the way we live, socialize, and communicate in a virtual world. Along with the trees, flowers, forests, and ponds that I just know are secretly inhabited by huge colonies of tiny faeries and nymphs, I found that almost everything around the Garden of Dreams is filled with numerous poses and animations that let me play to my heart’s content and feel right at home. And if you wander even just a few meters away from the landing point you’ll stumble upon little environmental enclaves that really take you to places filled with dreams.

Visit the Garden of Dreams in SecondLife! And while you’re there, make sure you look for the party, because it’s almost as wild as the sim where it all goes down.

Shibari Chic: Painfully Pleasurable

This week one of my male readers made me an offering in the form of a package simply called “Angelic Bondage.” After my initial thoughts about the extremely high level of testicular fortitude that it took to make such an offering had passed, I suppressed the accompanying knee-jerk reaction to use my (sometimes) sharp and venomous tongue to collect another set of balls for the collection I display on my mantle at home just long enough to open the package and try on its contents. I’m exceptionally happy that I did, for within “Angelic Bondage” was one of the finest pieces of fetish clothing I have ever come across in Second Life.

Shibari is a Japanese word that means “to tie” or “to bind” and is commonly used to describe a specific style of sexual bondage that involves tying one up in a visually-stimulating pattern of jute rope that intentionally forces the person being bound into an uncomfortable position. Given the quality of the “Angelic Bondage” outfit by Ropeworx, I decided to go on my very own journey of pain for pleasure’s sake.

I stopped in first at Ropeworx to verify the provenience of my newfound prize and check out the other wares for sale. I grabbed the “Hand Marks” that you can see in the picture above. While I’m not certain that they are distinctly hand marks, I am certain that they are finely-crafted and leave a great bit to one’s imagination about what might have left such an imprint on your posterior. And the fact that there is a great deal left to the imagination of the end-user is an outstanding accomplishment (and no small feat) for any artist that makes goods for the fetish community in Second Life.

Upon my arrival home, clad only in rope, I decided to decorate my doll for the occasion and set the scene for the pictures you see here. I began by resurrecting and texturing an ancient pillow I made that includes most of the traditional submissive poses available in Second Life. I then painstakingly created the statement written on the wall using magnificent prims, sculpted at the hands of Ghanie Lane. (Yes, it would have taken me 2 minutes in Photoshop to obtain the same result in appearance, but we’re talking about a journey of pain for pleasure. Right?) And while the end-product is painfully prim-heavy to intentionally drive home the message about my journey into the world of Shibari, I’m sure I’ll create a more conservative rendition at some point.

In keeping with my statement about the strength found in one who chooses to submit, I decided I would accessorize my look with only the finest jewels that would convey that strength and confidence. I didn’t have to reach farther than the space in my closet that houses my precious gems and metals by MANDALA. There aren’t any jewels on the grid that say, “I Am Strong and Proud” like those coming out of MANDALA. It feels like strength, beauty, and pride are the fibers that bind these precious metals, gems, and fierce nails together. But of course I went through the most pain for giving you the pleasure of seeing what’s on my feet.

Yes, I will proudly show you my bare feet now that they’re made at the masterful hands of Siddean Munro for SLink. I’ll be damned if she didn’t fulfill my wildest dreams by supplying a most basic need with her “Jolie Pied Barefoot Tiptoes.” And while they fulfill all my needs in my viewer-of-choice at the moment, I decided to endure the pain of trying the new SL Viewer 2.0, for the first time, just to show you these pieces of artwork for your feet sans invisiprims. They are magical, beautiful, and everything that my doll’s bare feet have always wanted to be. And I cannot underscore the intense sensuality of seeing a woman with beautiful bare feet in a world where all the rest are wearing hooker heels. (And I did receive this outfit as a gift after I spent three whole days running around in them.)

4 Hot Reasons To Stand Up To Your Boots

Nobody is more excited than I am that the shoe makers of Second Life have come out swinging in 2010 like they mean business. And from what we’ve seen so far, it’s clear that the business of the day is the almighty boot. Bax Coen recently threw down the gauntlet to anyone daring to make virtual silver or gold with the latest release of the Bax Prestige Boots. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen leather like what’s coming out of SLink, certainly not in some of the metallic shades included in the most recent SLink release, the Quinn Boots. So precious metals are in and you’ve got to find something to go with those fabulous boots that had your name written all over them. The only problem is that when it comes to Second Life, and clothing in particular, nothing is more commonly botched than silver, gold, and all the other metals we desperately need to have on hand to stand up to these bold accessories. So what’s a doll to do?

Well I’ve been all over the grid, searching high and low, for some clothing that would stand up to the textures on my boots. At long last, I found them at an old favorite, Son!a. Since I last went to Son!a ages ago, her store has grown exponentially, in tandem with her ability to make hot little ensembles begging to grace your doll. Son!a earned a spot here and I show her clothes shamelessly because she is the only seamstress in Second Life that provides a variety of ensembles that can easily stand up to the metals of Bax, SLink, and MANDALA. Her textures are fabulous, the outfits are everything they should be and more, and she is in a league of her own when it comes to meeting the powerhouse cobblers and jewelers of the grid, who have single-handedly made precious metals the new black. Go to Son!a! And while you’re there, make sure you don’t miss this hot, new release called “Rapture,” because it might just come to pass when they see you coming in this outfit.

I remember getting the 4-1-1 on Bodysuits By KIM ages ago when my friend, Shag Telling, told me that there were some great “ass dresses over there” and passed me an LM. Naturally, I went immediately and bought a ton of stuff (that I’ve been meaning to talk about.) But when I saw Bodysuits By KIM on the list for the ZombiePopcornSL Hunt, I decided to drop over and give it another look. I didn’t find the hunt item, but I found a TON of killer stuff that I decided I couldn’t live without and proceeded to engage in the (generally forbidden) Flagrant Fatpack Purchase (“FFP.”) Among my finds at Bodysuits By KIM was this hot, little, black, lace dress dubbed “Tattia.” It hugs my curves in all the right places and is made of lace that rivals the best I’ve seen to-date. This dress is absolutely worth making the trip over there to spend your heard-earned duckets. I’d advise you to leave the wallet at home unless you have some serious self-control when it comes to purchasing high-end, sex appeal for your doll, but that wouldn’t be much fun. So get over there and get your curves on!

Back In Black

It seems I’ve got a thing for hats these past few days, so when Luck, Inc. released some new Jumpers in a variety of solid colors and patterns I couldn’t wait to top one of these little babies off. And I found the perfect topper for this little number from AKEYO. This fedora is sold as a men’s hat, but I find it brings all the boys to my yard anyways. (I’m pretty sure it springs from that same irresistible charm of seeing a woman dressed up in nothing but a man’s collared shirt or wearing only his tie and high heels.)

It’s common knowledge that CK Winx of Luck, Inc. is one of the grid’s most prolific hoetouriers, and I agree that there is rarely a better place to go than Luck, Inc. if you’re looking to show off your assets properly. These new Jumpers are no exception to the rule. They sport a sexy, cut-out back that shows just enough to leave everyone in the room wondering what else is under your hat. And though I’m normally not a big proponent of sculpted, prim attachments on shorts I think they were incorporated into this outfit properly and with care. As with many items from Luck, Inc., a noticeable effort was made to create textures specifically for the sculpted attachments on this outfit to ensure that the they blended nicely with the “fabric” of the avatar clothing pieces. (That type of attention to detail is one of the reasons that Luck, Inc. consumes a huge portion of the market share in this area and something that NONE of the Luck, Inc. imitators out there have managed to get through their heads.)

And although I have some issues with respect to the cuts and texturing on the bust area of these Jumpers, I think it’s a very strong showing from Luck, Inc. overall and I will absolutely be holding on for the next release. I enjoyed dressing up this outfit so much that I gave it a go in another pattern.

Where Pigs Fly

More than just shiny things distract me! As it turns out, adorable little animals like flying pigs do the trick too. I decided to get all bronzed up the other day because I couldn’t resist pairing the fabulous new MANDALA Lotus jewelry in bronze with the new Quinn Boots by SLink in the same color. (And I know I said I would shut up about the shoes already, but what can I say? I’m shameless when it comes to shoes, and these are so hot.) And I didn’t go out looking for adorable farm animals all clad in bronze, but a friend took me over to D-LAB and it wasn’t long until I had to force myself to teleport home before completely draining my entire supply of spacebux. I found the cutest animals for my own little petting zoo, and I don’t even have to feed them! Precious white bunnies, a welcoming monkey, an adorable little elephant, a hamster and even a flying pig all came home with me and I wasted no time in making them a little hangout. And while most stuff this cute is absolutely not modifiable, I am very pleased to report that ALL of the bunnies and my little hamster are totally modifiable which is always a HUGE bonus for me.

Of course, I needed just the right accessory to show the world that I was rolling up my sleeves to do some hard work at the petting zoo and I knew exactly what would do the trick. So I hitched a ride over to Sand Shack Surf Co. and picked up a little cowboy hat that comes with its very own piece of wheat to chew on. I will confess that I have been lusting after these hats since I first saw them some time ago but restrained myself from a flagrant fatpack purchase (“FFP”) at the time. That being said, if my foray into the world of bronze proves one thing, it’s that a cowboy hat makes all the difference in the world. (Yeah, it’s why those girls at the beach in bathing suits and cowboy hats get all the attention.) And because this is as fierce as bronze gets, I will proudly show you my inspiration for getting all bronzed up.

I generally reserve Friday evening for whatever made my week. And although the new SLink Quinn Boots have definitely made the short list, the powers that be have appropriately recognized Ms. Siddean Munro of SLink and she is one of the lucky elite featured in this week’s Fifty Linden Friday event, so there will be no shortage of people shouting the wonders of SLink from their respective mountaintops. That being said, it’s time to talk about what I fell in love with this week.

I swore off the “big name” jewelers with the coming of 2010, so you know I was avoiding MANDALA like the plague. Everyone was telling me to get over there in a hurry, but I refused to budge. Early this week, I finally took that trip. And I’m so glad I did. Not only is MANDALA owned and operated by the same wonderful person that has given us TEMPURA ISLAND, one of my favorite travel destinations in SecondLife, but they have got BIG, beautiful, sexy jewelry all over the place. I’m a sucker for giant jewelry that steals the show, and MANDALA had me at “bangle.” Even though I was a little paranoid about potential prim-nail issues, I couldn’t pass it up and I had to have it all. The best part is that I suffered absolutely no buyer’s remorse. It was completely worth it and I’d do it all over again. THIS IS WHAT I WANT! THIS IS THE JEWELRY I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR MY WHOLE SLIFE! AND IF YOUR PRIM NAILS DON’T LOOK EVERY BIT AS FIERCE AS THESE, THEN YOU NEED TO GO OVER TO MANDALA AND DECORATE YOUR HANDS WITH SOME MANDALA MAGIC!

And because my cheating, shoe-whore heart just won’t stop, I’ll give the boots another nod.

The Bunnies Bare It All

The inspiration for my Easter Project came from the creator behind the Nymphetamine “Frisky Easter Bunnies,” Paeoti Pomeray. Around the time she released her “Frisky Easter Bunnies,” she sent a small gift to some of her personal friends. The gift, sent with full permissions and an invitation to redistribute, included some religious tee shirts and a short note with a touching story about her own religious beliefs. Nothing to do with her store or even a landmark to the location was included. It struck me that it was pretty brave to share something that personal about yourself with the rest of the world so freely, especially in a world that houses people of almost every religion and many more that don’t subscribe to any religion at all. When I asked her about it, she told me that she had gotten nervous after having sent the gift but was put at ease by a friend with religious beliefs that are diametrically opposed to her own and those that she expressed in her “Holy Easter Gift.” The friend told her that he wouldn’t be wearing the shirts anytime soon, but that he was happy to have been on the list of recipients just the same. And that whole story reminded me of one of the most beautiful things about this virtual microcosm that so many of us think of as an escape or refuge from the cold, cruel world of flesh and blood. We all come here bringing our own ideologies and life experiences, from all sorts of different places and backgrounds, but it takes all of us to make the metaverse go ‘round and SecondLife is the tie that binds us altogether.

I hoped that residents having read my challenge would use the opportunity to showcase something about themselves using the “Frisky Easter Bunnies.” I made sure that they were completely copiable, modifiable, and affordable so that there was almost no bar to entry. And I thought I’d get submissions from people having fashioned them into a dress or some other fashion statement and others using them to make statements about religion or their hatred for all things bunny and everything in between. And though I knew a great many people would wear them as intended, I figured those braves souls would be in the minority. What I got wasn’t what I expected, but is even more beautiful than the showcase I intended. The submissions I got were all from people who dared to bare it all and wore the “Frisky Easter Bunnies” as they were designed to be worn, showing all the courage and confidence that I found so inspirational in the first place. I’m also pretty sure that almost none of them take themselves too seriously, which I always appreciate. So without further adieu, I give you Shyayn’s Dirty Bunnies:

Brie Pinazzo: A woman way too beautiful and outspoken to ever win Miss Virtual World grabbed the bull by the horns. She pulled me and the man strong enough to love a woman with the strength of Atlas, Walter Kovacs, away from our Friday night antics to pose for this outstanding group photo.

Colleen Criss: She needs little introduction, least of all from me, but this classy vixen hit the ground running and shouted about this project all over the place!

Misti Merryman: The woman that has given the gift of $GaNKeD$ jewelry, and the only person that could ever get me to give them a lap dance in the Neva Naughty Dance Club, also participated with enthusiasm. Yeah, that’s her!

Chalice Carling: This little spitfire seized the opportunity to burlesque it up and make the color pink look even better than I thought it could!

Roxi Richez: One of the owners of FANG Magazine wasn’t shy about showing the world what was in her Easter basket.

Victoria Lustre: This firecracker probably had the most fun this past Easter weekend and definitely submitted the most photos. If you’re lucky, you can find her hanging around Lil’ Slurgis, where you can usually find a whole bunch of strong women and no shortage of men that appreciate them.

Stacy Maracas: This killer DJ kept the bunnies dancing all weekend long! Check her out in-world if you’re looking to hear some killer classic rock with some sassy commentary.

Paypabak Writer: This girl is my neighbor, so I already knew she was a naughty girl. But I’ll be damned if she didn’t blow me away and sex it up like nobody else did for this project!

Jenica Pennuca: The founder of ZombiePopcornSL who is currently organizing the ZombiePopcornSL Hunt, took the opportunity to beautify a field of spring flowers.

Shara Diener: A self-described “novice photographer,” wasn’t scared to show us what she’s workin’ with.

Cathiee McMillan: This total betty took the opportunity to proudly show the world her brand new shape and clearly understands that real men want something to hold onto. Look at those curves!

Collette Jewell: Doesn’t she look great while proving that even kitties love bunnies in a world where anything is possible?

Jordan Whitt: The editor-in-chief of Icon Lifestyle Magazine wasn’t bashful about showing the world how lucky one Easter basket can be…

And someone I know only as C A Ruby turned in this amazing shot.

Boot Janus: A man that doesn’t just appreciate strong women, but supports them and makes them stronger everyday, turned in some outstanding bunny photos.

Raven Halaan: He totally got it and wasted no time in getting his girl outfitted for the occasion!

Shag Telling: The only woman unlucky enough of being fingered as my alt showed us her curves too.

Abbie Bulloch: Last, but not ever least, this precious bunny showed up too. Abbie is one of those people that makes my SecondLife worth living everyday and I adore her to no end. I am a richer person for knowing her.

And for everyone who made it this far, I’ll happily show you more of what I did with my “Frisky Easter Bunnies,” which I think you’ll agree pales in comparison to the beautiful men and women above.

Put Some Kink In Your Easter Basket

During our first Easter together, my man’s demonic mother phoned at 11 AM to inquire about what we were doing for Easter, proudly announcing that she had just come from her ~~completely freakish and cult-like~~ Southern Baptist church. I cringed as I listened to him agree that we would meet her and, the man she burdens daily, for brunch as he spoke to her from the bed where we slept “in sin.” When he hung up the phone, I decided we would be late to brunch. So we fornicated until around the time we were supposed to be walking into the nightmare of a chain restaurant that the devil’s concubine who my man knows only as “mom” had chosen to serve us bland food on that holy day. I don’t think it occurred to either of us to try to look like we hadn’t just finished doing something that I would be going to confession over for weeks to come, but I’m confident that we were still covered in the smell of sex when we finally sat down at the table for brunch. As I listened to her insult my religion over our meal and classify all Catholics as godless heathens, I decided I would have sex with her first-born child and favorite son every Easter Sunday for as long as he would give me the privilege of doing so. And since he’s still sleeping off the morning lovecakes that he made me for breakfast, I decided to log on and get in the spirit of Easter.

I decided to wear a beautiful, Easter-themed lingerie set from Blacklace that would get me a whole lot more than an Easter basket. But I really didn’t want to take off my new, pink boots from Mentine. The boots are baby pink, but the pretty, pastel color doesn’t change the fact that they’re skin-tight and adorned with metal in a way that unmistakably screams fetish. They inspired me to put a little kink in my Easter basket this year. So I donned my favorite collar from Ephemeral Creations, where the finest collars in SecondLife are forged, from old-fashioned prims and outstanding textures, and sold with modify privileges in-tact. I finished the outfit off with a perfectly soft, fluffy bunny tail and the only bunny ears worthy of this naughty bunny.

But I still had to set the scene.

I started out with some fabulous daisies from A Touch of Ireland. Since they’re modifiable, I made them big enough to go with everyone’s favorite, giant bunny from Happy Mood and set the perfect backdrop to showcase the spectacular Easter offerings from MB CreationZ. I’ve been waiting to showcase the work of Minke Bailey for a while and I’ve definitely selected the right holiday because she is owning Easter with her completely unique style that has fabulous written all over it. Of course, she made a giant “Easter Delights” eggshell that seats two for everyone like me who likes REALLY BIG things, but she also made some smaller items that are equally fabulous and more appropriate for girls who don’t insist that bigger is better. But I’ll still highly recommend them to my fellow size-queens, who just want it to be really big, because her stuff is modifiable so you can make it just the right size.

This Easter Sunday I hope to showcase some of the humanity and individuality in the SecondLife community. Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate in the project and I encourage you to pass the message along. I am accepting pictures of SecondLife residents in this outfit. Feel free to show anything else you’d like in the photo, but this outfit must be on the avatars show, in some form or another. It will be the tie that binds, so to speak. The idea is to make it your own and showcase your HUMANITY and INDIVIDUALITY, which I believe are abundant in SecondLife. I have to be honest, I’m still in “young love” and very smitten with the new Tiger Heels from SLink, so it’s a bit early for a Shoe Report Card. However, the preliminary results look good. Very good. When I saw the first pictures of them I was skeptical and really didn’t think that I’d actually like anything with a wooden heel, especially since the vast majority of the heels out there sport metal stiletto heels. But I noticed immediately that the toes had been completely redone so I decided to investigate further. I know the SLink slogan is “classy gear for classy babes,” but I snuck in anyways. And you can see above, my favorite color in the new Tiger heels is FATPACK. The textures are impressive and the wooden heel appropriately gives the whole shoe very earthy feel. The toes are a dramatic improvement and I’m extraordinarily pleased to see that someone both understands that prim feet are very much about the toes and has also taken the time to actually update them instead of using the same tired feet and toes over and over (like nobody notices.) Updating your toes and sculpted feet is a reinvestment in your business and a signal that you’re serious about playing ball. And I’m pretty confident that SLink’s bottom line will demonstrate that it’s absolutely worth it. I’ll reserve further comment on the textures and toes for a formal Shoe Report Card when I’m confident that my head isn’t clouded by my new love affair with these shoes, but I’m not done yet.

I got these shoes last week and I’ve been trying to break them ever since. I have taken them to some seriously laggy sims and attempted to break the resize function. I hit those resize buttons as fast as I could, knowing full well that the scripts in the shoe were still responding to the scripts in the HUD as I pressed away, making them repeatedly huge and tiny in the laggiest of laggy sims. The reset button took them back to their original shape without fail and without a single prim out of place. Next, I decided that sizing them independently would surely break them. I took off one shoe and made the one I was still wearing huge, reattached the other shoe and then started banging away at those resize buttons again. To my shock, BOTH shoes and promptly shifted to the same size, corresponding to what I specified on the HUD.

HEAR ME NOW! THIS IS AN ACCEPTABLE RESIZE SCRIPT! IF YOU ARE WORKING WITH SOMETHING LESS, THEN GET YOUR SHINE BOX AND GO HOME RIGHT AFTER YOU MAKE SURE THAT YOU’VE CHECKED THE BOX THAT ALLOWS ME TO MODIFY WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU ARE SELLING ME.

Holy Particles!

Tyrehl Byk is a particle badass! I went to see his amazingly cool and unique particle show last night for the second time. I enjoyed it even more the second time around, which I thought was impossible. The show features the coolest particle effects I’ve ever seen dancing, exploding, and bouncing around in time to a musical score that includes everything from classical music to REM and Lady Gaga. This is absolutely something you must see and experience for yourself. Trust me, these pictures don’t begin to do justice to the in-world experience. Get your pixels in gear and go to the Event Horizon Theatre to see one of his upcoming shows. While you’re there, make sure you hit the big blue sign and subscribe to receive notices about upcoming shows and other updates from this particle man. Bax Coen Wins Silver …

As I’m sure you’re already quite aware that today is reserved for the celebration of Bax Coen. (She did send out a notice to the Bax’s Boot Promotion and Update group in-world to notify us in advance!) In keeping with the occasion, SecondLife residents from the farthest corners of the grid and everywhere in between are appropriately falling over themselves to get to the new BAX Boots store and throw down their hard-earned duckets for the latest renditions of the exceptional BAX Prestige Boots. If you thought we had seen enough of these boots, you were dead wrong. Yeah, they’re that good. Not being one to leave her loyal followers feeling anything less than intoxicated by her latest release, Ms. Coen again raised the bar (she set) and simultaneously threw down the gauntlet to anyone daring to create virtual silver or gold. Since shiny things set my heart aflutter and anything convincingly silver sends me over the moon, I wasted no time getting these precious metals on my feet and creating a look to match.

I thought surely I would center an outfit around the “fine silver” color option on the newest BAX Boots, but the blue tint of the “electric” color option had me on rezz. It matched up nicely with one of my new favorite corsets from *X*plosion that features some look-at-by-fabulous-cleavage, sheer, black lace peeking out of the bodice. And on this holy day, all the right planets perfectly aligned in the house of Shyayn allowing me to miraculously locate and retrieve this black, lace skirt by Canimal from the depths of my closet. Not only did the skirt perfectly complement the aforementioned cleavage lace on the corset, but it easily accommodated all that junk in my trunk which is no small feat for a prim skirt! My staple door-knocker hoop earrings by Burroughs Jewelry and the magical touch of the “All The Jazz” necklace from $GaNKeD$ pulled it all together for an epic win. I was so taken with the shimmery blue of this ensemble that I traded in my everyday contacts for the piercing ice blue “tragic eyes” by Curio.

Pixel MILF?

I finally stumbled home from a party at the Burning Life Spring Fling during the wee hours of Sunday morning, glowing wings and all. Needless to say, I was in no condition to deal with what I found on the doorstep once it came into focus. Someone left a baby on the SHAG doorstep right underneath my lucky charms! I stared on, in shock and horror, at the little bundle for a good half hour before deciding that the mushrooms from that party were playing a very evil trick on my mind. I chalked it up to being “just in my head” and finally passed out on the doorstep staring at what I was sure was a very vivid hallucination.

I woke a few hours later with a headache and cough that suggested I should promptly figure out what the holy hell happened last night. I felt my face against the cool, wood floor in the store and silently promised God that I would never misbehave again, go to church and confession every week, and chant the Hail Mary 75 times if everything was actually okay. I slowly opened my eyes, wondering when the pounding in my head would stop, and the silhouette of of a small basinet came into view. Images from the night before began flashing through my head at break-neck speed when the crystal, clear memory of finding a baby on the doorstep cut right through the hangover haze and physically jolted me upright. In a state of utter panic I sat there in the doorway desperately trying to get my bearings, using my tactile sense to gauge the normality of the situation like a demented Helen Keller while I waited for my vision to catch up. I was starting to think that the situation couldn’t be that bad since I was still clothed, had all of my hair and both of my shoes on when the empty basinet came into focus. OH MY GOD … it had escaped! I clawed my way up the side of the doorway until I was standing as firmly as one can stand after a night of debauchery and immediately scanned the store.

I saw it over by the tequila and began making my way there through the Sunday lag and last night’s hangover. By the time I chased it down through a wake of broken home decor and fallen lamps, the little bugger was all the way over by the Disco Sh!t. Just as I started, “YOU LITTLE BAS…” this (really hot) guy showed up and I froze mid-scream.

He raised a brow, “Bastard? Is that his given name?” I looked away from it over to the hottie and became acutely aware that I probably looked like some new Mommy Dearest hybrid carrying only the very worst mothering skills of Joan Crawford and Courtney Love. Even I was horrified by the scene.

“Someone left him here,” I explained. I stood there, hoping to somehow redeem myself when I blurted out, “TARD! That’s his name.”

“Tard?” he asked, visually repulsed.

“Yes. It’s bad for his self-esteem to call him ‘Bastard’ even though I haven’t a clue who his father is and besides that, it’s abbreviated and versatile.” Satisfied at having named my new charge and feeling slightly more in control of a situation that was completely, utterly, and obviously out of my control, I went on the offense. “Why are you hunting for a MILF here anyways? Can’t you see that this place is clearly NOT childproof?”

He shrugged, “I find that a lot of MILFs enjoy fabulous modern furniture and other high-quality home interior products.” Without another word, he poofed and offered me a teleport to the Zooby’s Babies store in Zoobyville. I scooped up Tard and accepted the teleport. “Just get what you need for him here,” the MILF Hunter said and waited while I selected from among the fine selection of baby accessories. As I shopped, I thought to myself that this guy was living proof that God had heard my silent hangover promises earlier. I looked at Tard and realized I had unwittingly become a Pixel MILF. While I finished shopping, I got on the horn with my girls over at T Junction to put them to work making a shirt that would put the rest of the world on notice about my new status. In no time, they served up a little piece of T Junction heaven that showed the rest of the world I was, in fact, a bona fide Pixel MILF. Having selected all the equipment I needed to properly care for Tard, I teleported home. Of course I didn’t leave the MILF Hunter behind! He joined us and sat patiently while I gave Tard a much-needed bath, appreciating my newfound status as a mother.

After I got the little bugger squeaky clean, the MILF Hunter helped me get him to fall asleep.

Of course, he didn’t want to sleep once I put him in his crib.

As the MILF Hunter looked on, I smiled and kissed my little Tard goodnight and recited the words to “Wynken, Blynken, and Nod” while waiting patiently for him to drift off. At last, he was sound asleep.

And then the MILF Hunter moved in for the kill. :)

The wild children behind SecondLife’s Burning Life festivals are at it again! They’re formally throwing off the chill of winter with the Burning Life Spring Fling. When my friend Raven Haalan heard I was planning on getting something done today, he wasted no time in teleporting me away to a drum circle performance at the festival. While I’ve been busy playing flight attendant and riding on a boat, Ghanie Lane has been workin’ hard for the money. Above are some of her most recent releases that you might want to grab if you plan on twisting some (sculpted) prims this weekend. As per her usual fare, the sculpts are fantabulous and available for sale at a completely reasonable price. I can’t wait to see what people do with the triple moons, eye of Horus, and Celtic pentacles sets because they’re some of the most unique sculpts I’ve seen hit the market in a very long time. I’m On A Boat

“I’m On A Boat” is easily my favorite SNL short ever. When this SNL musical short appeared, mocking all that is holy in hip hop culture while featuring the prominent hip hop guru, T-Pain, I was immediately hooked. I was on a boat that day and every day thereafter for at least 4 months, so much so that one of my friends made me an in-world TV that would only play “I’m On A Boat” … on repeat. Naturally, I was ecstatic upon discovering that one of my favorite prim magicians, Akasha Wachmann of CatniP, created a mini-land yacht inspired by the SNL skit I adore. Sadly, I had already exhausted my monthly allowance for CatniP wares when I made the discovery, so I added the “Catnip – I’m On A Boat! Drivable Mini Yacht” to my XStreetSL favorites list. The actual boat seats one with another spot for your street-surfing buddy, REZZES UNLIMITED ADDITIONAL DOLPHIN VEHICLES on-touch for anyone else around, and even comes with a set of blue “flippy floppies.”

And yesterday was the day of reckoning! I dusted off that listing and queued my very own boat for delivery. I paused momentarily to admire the listing before hitting “buy now” and noticed that a few people left the primcess Akasha some nasty reviews. Being unable to comprehend anything other than a 5-Star rating and a glowing review for anything from CatniP, I looked closer … and laughed really hard. Apparently a few SecondLife residents completely missed the boat entirely and left statements on the product listing complaining that “the boat is so hard to steer” and “does not work … on water” as though they were really going to use this as a legitimate form of transportation or do something other than act like complete clowns while being on this boat. And given the nature of the SNL skit that inspired this little creation, I don’t think anything could be more appropriate than SecondLife residents expressing terminal butt hurt on XStreetSL over being unable to actually use it for something other than lulz.

The Girlie Show

I suspect that it’s because I can’t get enough of the new skin I’m in by Chaisuki, but I have really had trouble putting clothes on lately. Fortunately, the good people over at Rozoregalia understand that not all outfits actually require clothing and released some very original, edgy breast plates to cover (one of) my pixel nips. When I saw them I was instantly transported back to pre-Gaga times when the original Material Girl reigned supreme, during her post-Erotica promotion, “The Girlie Show World Tour.”

While the breast plate is indisputably the pièce de résistance of this barely-there ensemble, I think the Rozoregalia Rosenkavalier hat ranks a very close and complementary second. And because my girlie show is almost always about the most bitchin’ accessories I can get my hands on, I left no stone unturned in locating jewelry that could stand up amongst these heavy-hitters. I found the perfect earrings at glow studio. Fantastically big and complete with animated textures, these little door-knockers fit the bill. I added some satin gloves and lace panties that show just the right amount of cheek along with some dangerously high heels and called it done.

Easter is right around the corner, so I hope you’ve got your little pixel butts ready for bunny mania. Oh wait, I think I remember seeing something about bunnies. (Ozimals?) Anyways, the fabulous Miss Ghanie Lane of Ghanie Lane Sculpt Maps has already gotten me in the spirit with her newly-released Anime Bunny Ears! Now we can all parade around in wonderful bunny ears, not just those of us that were around when someone got pissed at the Playboy people.

Of course, Terri Wardell of terri.tees has also served up some adorable shirts for the festivities. (I just know that Dick Cheney will be flattered when he sees this post!) She even threw in some action for the Pillsbury Doughboy who will happily proclaim “He is Risen” this Easter Sunday. Tee Shirt Tuesday: Chase Away The Monday Blues

I was feeling a little blue yesterday, mostly because Monday sucks, when I remembered that I hadn’t stopped in at T Junction in a while. It was just what I needed to chase away those Monday blues: witty, entertaining, and snarky statements plastered on the fronts of adorable shirts, priced to sell at L$ 75 a piece. It just doesn’t get any better than that when you desperately need a shopping fix and are attempting to cram your shopping habit into a budget! And I always enjoy shopping at T Junction because almost everything in the store gets a giggle or two out of me and gives me pause to wonder what story or incident prompted the T Junction divas to make a given shirt, especially since their shirts never fail to remind me of places, people, and things I encounter everyday.

For this comfortable Tee Shirt Tuesday, I wore some damaged jeans that scream “comfort” along with my prized hoop earrings from Burroughs Jewelry, and this killer hair that I positively adore from Uncleweb Studio. Last, but most certainly not least, the skin I’m in is my very favorite skin in recent memory and new skin-of-choice, the beautiful Brianna by Chai Kazan for Chaisuki.

Times are hard and getting harder, so I jumped for joy when I was recently offered a position as a flight attendant by a company that provides private, chartered jumbo jets to the rich and fabulous. The human resources lady said I had been hand-picked to join the team by corporate scouts assigned the task of ferreting out the finest pixels on the grid. I was flattered and smiled as she handed me my new uniform, a superb, super sexy little number from Blacklace. I was slightly puzzled when she said that they had gotten lucky finding “pro” talent like me since I don’t have any previous experience as a flight attendant. But I didn’t want to ask too many questions or seem incompetent, so I just smiled while I snatched up my uniform and headed off to check out my new office.

Turns out the company’s jets are provided exclusively by Captive Elegance, an organization that specializes in creating larger-than-life jumbo jet playgrounds for those with discerning taste. My first flight was to be on the brand new Dominatore XIV, a massive jet with three decks housing the jet’s nightclub, bars and seating areas, conference rooms, bedroom, hot tub, and two restrooms with fully-functional showers and sinks. I was assigned the task of catering to two rock stars that had been on vacation in Amsterdam during the scheduled overnight flight back to the US.

I greeted the passengers after they were safely on-board and explained that I would be at their disposal for the duration of the flight. They wasted no time in putting me to work and proving that their hiatus in Amsterdam had done nothing to quench their thirst for booze or women. They retired to the nightclub and ordered up shot-after-shot of tequila. Thankfully, the tips flowed as easily as the booze.

They promised they would complain to my new employer if I didn’t drink too, so I acquiesced and before long was enjoying myself as much as the rock star royalty I was being paid to entertain. Alas, my rock star clientele decided they’d had enough of the drink and asked me to show them to the jet’s sleeping quarters. I straightened my hat and tie and lead the way to the the bedroom suite on the top deck. Before I could make my exit, the spiky-haired gentleman stopped me. “Hang on… There’s only one bed.” I stared blankly at him and nodded. “We have to get some sleep for our World Tour that starts tomorrow. And since there’s only one bed it looks like you’re going to have to crawl in there with us, because two drunk, adult men sleeping in the same bed without a woman just isn’t right.” Either they were hot enough or I was drunk enough, or some combination of the two, that I didn’t argue. I peeled off the outer layer of my new uniform and jumped in bed. Coincidentally, the uniform from Blacklace included some excellent lingerie!

I got a little more than I bargained for when I jumped into that giant bed. My new rock star pals got friendly. Really friendly…

And after that hard day at my new job, I had to get clean…

I love holidays, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception! What’s not to love about a holiday when we all don something green, swill Guinness until we kiss other people irrespective of national heritage and feel just a little bit lucky? Nothing of course, unless you haven’t been liberally applying lip balm or haven’t found a St. Paddy’s Day outfit that will make sure they’re lining up to kiss you.

Under My Sunbrella

You know those days that make life worth living? The ones you’ll live to remember and never forget? Those days when everything is going so well that nothing can get you down? I do. Today was one of those days for me. And it’s been a long-time coming, so I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to take refuge under my sunbrella.

I heard about the fantastic, quirky umbrellas made by Weather! or not? from one of my friends making her rounds at the accessory fair. I visited the Weather! or not? main store this afternoon and stumbled upon the perfect accessory for days like these, a sunbrella. It makes sure that the (digital) sun is always shining on me and that the rest of the world knows it. I took it down to the deep, dark tunnel on the Creamshop sim to test it in the same way I’d been daring evil things to steal my sunshine all day long. Just like me, it endured. And when tomorrow or one of the many days to come isn’t as kind to me as today, I’ll be able to pull out my sunbrella to create a little sunshine just for me or to remind me that there will be other days like today ahead.

Of course, I can’t give my sunbrella all the credit for replacing all of those dark and ugly things with a bright, shining ray of light. It could’ve been my very favorite “Lucky” shirt made by Sanura Snowpaw of *Dreams*, who is living proof that angels arrive when you need them the most, sometimes with paws and a furry tail. Ode To The Scene Queen

I’m a pop culture fanatic, which is one of many reasons that I love the virtual world. You can bet that anything and everything that kids are wearing, saying, or texting about can (usually) be explained and exemplified on the world wide interwebs. And Second Life is no exception to the rule! I consulted my favorite online source of (mis)information, Urban Dictionary, to better understand the nuanced fashion of the scene girl. I think it’s where emo teenage angst meets everything that is super cute, but there is obviously a very healthy on-going debate.

I’ve wanted to pay homage to all the scene girls out there for a while as a big fan of Hello Kitty, cupcakes, big hair, and confident girls. And last week, I found some hair that finally pushed me to do so! I discovered a fabulous store called [AMG Boudoir], filled to the brim with high-quality hair, skin, shoes, and more. (I had to have everything, so you’ll be hearing a lot more.) But one of the first things that caught my eye was this big ‘ol mass of scene girl hair, aptly called “Scenika.”

I donned one of my favorite Curio skins to lend a smoky eye and some adorable, pouty lips, along with a shirt from my girls over at T Junction that clearly says I have “o% Interest In You!” I threw on some plastic bangles from *BOOM* along with a while belt and heaps of cupcake jewelry from Violet Voltaire, who I suspect is a bona fide scene queen herself. Some super skinny jeans and a pair of very nice ballerina flats from Armidi completed the look. I threw in my favorite facial piercings from Ephemeral Creations for good measure.

Latex is a hot commodity in Second Life. Generally-speaking, it’s also completely effed up or otherwise fugly and unacceptable (and often sold for astronomical prices.) Most latex clothing on the grid features giant white gashes masquerading as reflections over flat textures and completely unflattering cuts that scream “DO NOT WEAR THIS.” And let’s not forget all the latex designed for desperate dominas that cover everything except your T&A. If I had a $L for every time I’ve seen crap latex palmed-off as “couture” or “lingerie with an edge,” I’d be on the cover of BusinessWeek instead of Anshe Chung. So what are you supposed to do if you’re in need of QUALITY latex that won’t break the bank or scream “attention whore” to everyone around you? I’ll tell you.

Exquisite Jewelry at a Reasonable Price

One of my resolutions for 2010 is to be more reasonable about in-world purchases, particularly avatar accessories. I love to accessorize and fatpack is my favorite color, so it’s not difficult for me to go into a jewelry store and spend an impressive chunk of change. (Since $L 1,000 is about $4.00 USD, a spending spree for accessories can really add up if you’re shopping somewhere that the average set in a single color retails for somewhere around $L 1,200.) But thankfully Mariposa Jewelry appeared on my radar this week, proving that I don’t have to sacrifice quality or quantity!

I was nosing around Lithe the other day to see what ~~prims I could steal~~ needed to be done, and a little pink wall in Ghanie Lane’s store caught my eye. I immediately went over to investigate, especially since I ~~told her to return those damned guest vendors~~ love pink. I was pleasantly surprised to see some jewelry that looked pretty darn impressive from the display. I checked the price and thought it couldn’t be that great because all the big name jewelers charge three times as much, but the bracelet on display held my attention for several minutes and kept calling my name. It looked so well-done. And to my amazement, it is! Every meticulously-designed piece features sumptuous textures and excellent prim work. And at $L 320 for a full set that includes earrings, a necklace, and short and long bangle bracelets, it’s safe for me to go back into the jewelry store.
